Slow Release formulation technologies
OctoPlus offers three polymer hydrogel technologies involving API-loaded microspheres that are administered by sub-cutaneous or intra-muscular injection. The API is then slowly released from the injected depot. The release period can be tailored and can last from one week to several months.
Formulation Development
A large variety of activities are offered by OctoPlus:
- Development of high quality formulations of bio-pharmaceutical and chemical compounds, using a wide variety of techniques and technologies, including liposomes, emulsions, cyclodextrins, excipients and solvents, etc.
- Development of analytical methods (incl. verification, validation)
- Development of processes and scale-up (aseptic processes, lyophilization, encapsulation, homogenization, concentration, etc.)
Manufacturing of liquid products
In our state-of-the-art facilities a fully automated filling line is available for filling into vials (class A). The facility also includes freeze-driers and different types of sterilisation are possible.
An experienced QA department is available for the release of manufactured products.

OctoPlus is a drug delivery company of 115 people with 5250 m² of labs, offices and manufacturing facilities situated in Leiden, the Netherlands. OctoPlus employs skilled pharmaceutical scientists, of which many have a Ph.D.. As per 2009, OctoPlus has concluded more than 150 projects including biopharmaceutical compounds (proteins, peptides, vaccines, antibodies, siRNA, DNA; 100 projects in total) and chemical compounds (50 projects). In these projects the focus is mainly on stable liquid formulations for parenteral, pulmonary or liquid oral administration.
