5 Years of Contract Development at Midas Pharma
We spoke to Andreas Kahm, who oversees this topic in the Midas Business Development division.
Midas Pharma offers a broad portfolio of products and solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. A relatively new component of this is FDF Contract Development, which the Business Development department has the responsibility since around 5 years.
Andreas, how did you come to be responsible for this topic at Midas?
Before I became part of the BD team in 2018, I was deeply involved in our own product ideas as a “developer” at Midas. Due to this and also taking into account my previous positions in pharmaceutical development, I got appointed. A task and challenge that I was very happy to accept.
How has the business developed in recent years?
FDF-contract development is now an established part of the business models within our BD activities. Interest in potential projects is constantly increasing.
We have already completed our first projects and will achieve a further submission of another product this year.
That sounds very positive.
What is our expertise? Is there a particular core competence?
Our expertise certainly reflects in our own Midas product portfolio. Lots of so-called “New Fixed Combinations” (NFDC) are available for licensing and supply for a number of indications and therapeutic areas.
What sets Midas apart is its perfect coordination between various specialist departments. This is our core competence.
For us, service does not mean simply carrying out an order but rather providing our expertise and experience. We think ahead - with the view of the customer - as if it was our own product.
And for which customers is this concept particularly interesting?
Essentially for all customers who have a promising idea for their portfolio but lack the capability to develop, approve, and manufacture the desired product themselves.
But especially for those who are active in a limited territory. Midas also offers these customers access to further markets. If Midas secures there licensees and concludes supply contracts, the customer benefits of the resulting sales generated by Midas, all without any additional effort on their end.

What is the future outlook?
Very promising! We are currently in advanced talks about a solution that will help to consolidate the lifecycle management of an originator product.
Our BD activities have also enabled us to generate inquiries in territories where NFDCs have previously played less of a role. We will intensify these discussions and continue to promote our concept beyond 2025.
So, if you already have a product idea, please contact us. We are ready to go.
