Clorazepate dipotassium belongs to the substance class of benzodiazepines and works primarily through its metabolites on GABA receptors. The duration of action is about 48 hours, which is why the body gets used to it faster (tolerance, addiction). This creates the anxiety-causing and relaxing effect. Clorazepate is mainly prescribed for means of anxiety and panic attacks. It is only applicable as a sleep aid if the benzodiazepine effect is also desirable the day after. In addition, it can facilitate inpatient alcohol and barbiturate withdrawal symptoms.
