Sufentanil belongs to the group of synthetic opioids and is structurally related to fentanyl. It acts via opioid receptors in the central nervous system (CNS) and has a strong analgesic and sedative effect. Since it causes less respiratory depression than fentanyl, for example, it is used in anesthesia, but also in pain therapy in intensive care.
