Budesonide is a synthetic glucocorticoid that acts systemically. Compared to other glucocorticoids, the side effects are less pronounced due to the severe breakdown in the liver. Glucocorticoids have a strong anti-inflammatory effect and immunosuppressive in higher doses (or with prolonged use). The substance is intended for long-term treatment and unfolds its effect after about one to four weeks. Budesonide treats non-infectious and autoimmune diseases such as bronchial asthma, COPD and Crohn's disease.
